The benefit of deleting search engines from my phone
What happens to your brain and life when you don’t have access to the internet
This week, I’ve been listening to Make Time by Jake Knapp and John Zeratsky. It’s an annual routine for me to read or listen to the book because of the great refresher it provides on making time for what matters most in your life — all while cutting out unnecessary distractions.
One of their recommendations for making more time in your life is getting rid of the internet.
That’s not super practical for me since I do a lot of work from home, and most of my work involves the internet. However, I decided to take their recommendation this year and take the search engines off my phone. I disabled Safari, removed Chrome, and waited to see what would happen.
Nothing crazy happened.
At first, I didn’t even notice — until I did.
This semester, I taught relationship and mindfulness education to dozens of high schoolers every week at a local school. One of the big lessons we’ve changed this semester is our social media lesson, where we talk about online presence, how much time we spend online, and what we’re risking if we use our phones, tablets…
