5 Things I Learned After Breaking Up with My Therapist

I had been in therapy for four straight years before stopping this June. Weeks into this new therapy-free life, I started noticing things that were different — changes I was seeing in my psyche and my life.

My therapist didn’t do anything wrong, and it’s been a challenging mental game to play stepping away from something that has brought me such comfort and growth over the years. But it’s been great to look back, see what I’ve learned, and start applying it to my life.

There’s a reason we love therapy.

Research shows it helps us, and it’s nice to have someone we can say anything to, and per the rules, they can’t judge us. A therapist listens, helps, supports, and gives guidance when life is tough and we don’t know what to do.
